The past is everything that lies behind us, all we have accomplished, all we are; the future is raw potential, what we could become, what might happen. The present is where both sides of the hourglass, both existential behemoths meet in a single, unidimensional point; where it is decided which grain of sand goes through to shape the mountain below ever so slightly differently.

What is now?

Now is when a choice is made. Repercussion upon repercussion will pile onto the mountain of sand and the further away we go from this moment, the more different we will be compared to who we would be had that choice been different.

We can't see our other brothers and sisters, our parallel selves different only in one aspect that toppled an entirely different line of consequences. Perhaps this is good, as it prevents us from seeing how good things could've been had we chosen differently. Perhaps this is bad, as we could see how lucky we are to even be here at all - something so few of us truly realize.

In the end, however, it is unnecessary, for there are no other instances of me. I am here because I made these choices and these choices have made me. I know I made the right choices because I am here, now, conscious of all that has happened and ready for whatever potential lies ahead of me.

I know that everything turns out for the best.
